features

The multi-colored lobster reaches a body length of up to 40 cm, but is on average smaller than 30 cm. The carapace is rather rounded and covered by innumerable thorns of different sizes. The scourge of the antennas are longer than the bases of the antennas (antenna peduncle). There is no rostrum. There are no transverse furrows on the back. The peraeopods couples one to four do not have scissors .

The lively coloring is a striking and characteristic feature. The basic color is greenish-blue, the entire carapace is patterned with bluish-black spots. The multi-colored lobster is native to the Indo-West Pacific . It occurs in the Red Sea and from the coasts of East Africa to Japan . It is also found off Micronesia , Melanesia , Northern Australia, and Polynesia .

The multi-colored lobster is nocturnal and lives in shallow water at sea depths of 0 m to 15 m, mostly in coral reefs . It hides in caves or cavities during the day and does not live socially.

Use and endangerment
