history

The village of Viez was mentioned as early as 1230 in the register of the Ratzeburg bishops as "A village in which Slavs still live". The name is said to come from the “sour cherry” that grows in swamps and it was originally a round village. Between 1540 and 1940, 12 farming families lived in the former round village. 8 farms burned down in a fire in 1912. Some were then rebuilt outside of the village on their own fields, which lost their round character. The farms had between 30 and 50 hectares of land.
