Viggo Fauerholdt

Viggo Fauerholdt (born April 23, 1832 in Copenhagen ; † August 7, 1883 in Düsseldorf ) was a Danish landscape and marine painter .

Life

From 1846 to 1852 Fauerholdt attended the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen. In 1857 he won the Neuhausen Prize, a recognition of a foundation associated with a premium that goes back to the Danish painter Jens Neuhausen (1774-1816). In 1865 he traveled to Düsseldorf with this scholarship and lived there until the end of his life. Fauerholdt made numerous trips, including to the Netherlands, around 1873 to Katwijk and Dordrecht .

Fauerholdt's style, like that of his compatriot Anton Eduard Kieldrup , who had visited Düsseldorf in the winter of 1863/1864, was shaped by traditions of German landscape painting.
