Viktor Rosen ( Russian Виктор Романович Розен * February 9 jul. / 21st February  1849 greg. In Tallinn , Russian Empire ; † 28 December 1907 jul. / 10. January  1908 greg. In St. Petersburg , Russian Empire) was a Russian orientalist of German-Baltic origin.

Life

Origin and family

Viktor was a member of the noble family von Rosen . His parents were the Russian lieutenant , Councilor of State and Vice-Governor of Estonia , Robert Freiherr von Rosen (1790–1867) and Elisabeth, née. Sukhanova (1815-1891).

He married Olga Feodossijewna Wesselago († 1923). The marriage resulted in a son Viktor (1885–1912).

Career

Rosen attended the cathedral school in Reval from 1859 to 1866 and immediately thereafter studied in St. Petersburg until 1870 and for another year in Leipzig . He then joined in 1872 in St. Petersburg in 1872 as Magister and became the 1,883th ibid for Doctor of Arabic doctorate . From 1872 to 1883 he worked as a lecturer at his university, and from 1883 to 1885 as a full professor from 1885 to 1890. Rosen was also adjunct for Muslim languages ​​and literature from 1876 to 1882 , and from 1890 to 1901. He then worked as a full academic for the history and literature of the Asian peoples at the Academy of Sciences . In 1902 he became a privy councilor. From 1885 he was President of the Oriental Section of the Imperial Russian Archaeological Society , from 1900 a corresponding member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences .
