Viktoras Butkus

Viktoras Butkus (born January 18, 1923 in Tirkiliškiai , Čekiškė area , Kaunas district , † July 15, 1993 in Garliava ) was a Lithuanian theologian.

Life

From 1941 to 1944 he studied at the Vilkaviškis Seminary , from 1944 to 1945 at the Kaunas Seminary and was ordained a priest in 1945. From 1959 to 1961 he studied and received his doctorate in theology at the Lateran University in Rome . From 1952 to 1956 and from 1961 he taught at the Kaunas Seminary, from 1962 to 1989 he was Regens, from 1966 professor , from 1989 member of the Senate and dean of the faculty for Catholic theology at Vytautas Magnus University Kaunas .

KGB activity

Butkus had already been recruited by the KGB for intelligence work in the circles of the Lithuanian exiled clergy before he began his studies . As Agent Fichte , like his fellow student Romualdas Krikščiūnas , he delivered reports to the Soviet authorities during his studies.
