Osamah Masaud Al-Shanqiti ( Arabic أسامة مسعود الشنقيطي, DMG Usāma Masʿūd aš-Šanqīṭī ; * May 3, 1976 in Medina ) is a Saudi Arabian former athlete who competes in the long jump , triple jump and shot put . He suffers from a visual impairment and therefore starts in disabled sports in classification group F12, where the F stands for the English name field ( de .: field ).

Sports career

He made his international debut at the World Athletics Championships for the disabled in 2006 in the Dutch city ​​of Assen , when he immediately won the triple jump title and also secured a bronze medal in the long jump. Two years later he represented his country at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing . There he triumphed with a new world record in the triple jump and won the first ever Olympic gold medal for Saudi Arabia ( including the regular Olympic Games ).

The next event, the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London , was less successful for him. In the shot put he was eliminated with three invalid attempts and in the triple jump it was only enough for him for fifth place. Previously, he had led the Saudi Arabian team to the Olympic Stadium as the flag bearer at the opening ceremony .

At the 2013 World Athletics Championships for the disabled in Lyon , he finished sixth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.
