On September 29, 2013, as part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal, the municipalities of Vila Cova da Lixa and Borba de Godim were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Vila Cova da Lixa e Borba de Godim . Vila Cova da Lixa is the seat of this newly formed municipality.
