Vilhelm Oskar Engström , also Ville Engström (born March 28, 1830 , † January 25, 1877 in Düsseldorf ), was a Swedish genre and animal painter .

Life

Engström, son of the wholesaler Henric Engström and his wife Johanna Elisabeth Rosengren, initially worked in a Stockholm trading office. He did not feel comfortable doing this work. As a result, he suffered from depression that he had to be hospitalized for. From 1862 to 1865 he studied at the Stockholm Art Academy . He was represented at exhibitions at the Stockholm Academy in 1868 and 1873. With the support of his family, Engström moved to Düsseldorf in 1872 and settled there. Engström painted oriental motifs, genre and animal pictures.
