Vilho Ylönen

Vilho Ilmari Ylönen (born May 31, 1918 in Hankasalmi , †  March 8, 2000 in Konnevesi ) was a Finnish skier and marksman .

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 he was in the rank of Kersantti participant of the Finnish team in the demonstration competition military patrol , which won the silver medal in this discipline .

At the Olympic Summer Games in Helsinki in 1952 , he was second behind Erling Kongshaug in the small-bore three-position fight and in 1956 in Melbourne behind Vasily Borissow and Allan Erdman third in the free rifle three-position fight . In 1958 he was voted Finnish Sportsman of the Year. At the 1960 Summer Olympics , he achieved fourth place in the free rifle three-position competition and was seventeenth in the small bore category . Ylönen competed again at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where he finished 15th in the small bore three-position battle and 43rd in the small bore.

Professionally, Vilho Ylönen was involved in his officer's career in the Finnish Air Force . After retiring from military service, he worked as a representative for the weapons manufacturer Tikkakoski .
