Villa General Belgrano website

Villa General Belgrano is a small town in the Calamuchita department of the province of Cordoba in central Argentina . It is located in the northern Valle de Calamuchita , a valley in the Sierras de Córdoba about 75 kilometers south of the provincial capital Córdoba and has about 6000 inhabitants.

The city, named after the Argentine general Manuel Belgrano , is a popular tourist destination . It is mainly inhabited by the descendants of German , Austrian , Swiss and northern Italian immigrants - including survivors of the warship Admiral Graf Spee  , which was sunk off Montevideo in World War II - and is therefore considered an “ alpine enclave” in Argentina.

Tapping at the Oktoberfest 2006 in Villa General Belgrano

The festivals are particularly popular: the beer festival (Fiesta de la Cerveza) , which is modeled on the Munich Oktoberfest , the festival of Viennese cakes (Fiesta de la Masa Vienesa) and the chocolate festival .

In the center you will find many buildings and houses that are modeled on Alpine architecture. The German language can still be heard here and there, but this is being lost more and more.

Sports

The finals of the 2015 Fistball World Cup were played in Villa General Belgrano .
