The Villa Mertz is a villa on Rosenberg 1 in Heilbronn . The building was named after the Mertz family, who had the villa built and who owned the Georg Friedrich Rund vinegar factory that was once attached to the villa.

history

The Villa Mertz is located on the Neckar not far from the Götz Tower . It was built in 1811 for the entrepreneur Christian Mertz (1772–1824) as a country house on Rosenberg according to plans by Gottlieb Christian Eberhard von Etzel . The villa was the subject of etchings and engravings, such as that of Georg Ebner , who depicted it in his Neckar views of the city of Heilbronn. In 1893 an extension was added based on a design by the Heilbronn architects Hermann Maute and Theodor Moosbrugger .

In the Second World War almost destroyed, the building was rebuilt in 1960 by Julius Mertz almost faithfully traditional styles. The adjacent factory site was sold in the 1980s. Until 2008 the Villa Mertz was inhabited by Julius Mertz 'wife Huberta Mertz, after which it was empty. After renovation, a new media agency has been located in the building since December 2011.

In the immediate vicinity (Rosenberg 7) there is still a coach house from 1770, which also goes back to the vinegar factory Rund.
