The Villa Reichstein or Villa Fohrde is a listed former summer villa of the Brandenburg factory owner Carl Reichstein, who was one of the founders of the Brandenburger Brennaborwerke . It is located in the Fohrde district of the city of Havelsee and has been rebuilt several times.
Building
The Villa Reichstein is a building with partly classical elements. It is located on a park-like property with direct access to the Havel . The most conspicuous part of the building is a tower-like corner projection on the northwest corner of the building. In contrast to the otherwise two-story building, this risalit has three floors. The third floor is at the height of the hipped roof of the rest of the building. In addition, there is a frieze over the top window and a flat roof for this part of the building . The rectangular window in the middle floor of the risalit has a window canopy with a classic triangular gable . The windows on the lower floor on the south side of the building have similar roofs. Further features of the Villa Reichstein are a plinth , cornice on the south and west sides of the building and on the risalit, corner pilasters , ashlar plaster , some panels and a portal with wide stairs into the park. Compared to the classical elements significantly style breaking are the modern door in the west portal, in addition to the buttress unadorned held north facade with a modern canopy of a side entrance to the basement, new, lined with sheet metal roof dormers and a single-storey modern extension on the eastern exterior wall of the building, each distinct Form contrasts to the otherwise older architecture of the building.
Originally the villa was built as a summer residence on one floor with a flat roof and today's risalit is an actual three-floor residential tower in the northeast corner of the house. Instead of a roof, the tower had a viewing platform with a flagpole. After renovation work, a second floor and the hipped roof were added to the building and the parapet of the tower's viewing platform was removed. Due to this genesis, the different design, for example, of the windows on the upper floor, which was added later, compared to those on the lower floor of the building can be explained.
Usage history
In addition to other property, the villa was acquired in 1903 by the Brandenburg industrialists Carl and Adolf Reichstein. The previous owner was a Mr. A. Naumann, who ran several brickworks around Fohrde , which were also bought by the Reichstein family and demolished after Adolf Reichstein's death due to poor profitability. Carl Reichstein died in 1931. In 1942 the armaments contractor Hans Eltze bought the property. After the end of the Second World War, it was expropriated by the Brandenburg District Court in 1949 and "transferred to the people". The villa was then used as a school from August 25, 1950. The school was named August Bebel . In it, the students from the villages of Fohrde and Tieckow attended the 1st to 4th grade before they switched to the "Johann Wolfgang von Goethe" polytechnic in Pritzerbe . From 1992 to 1993 the building was completely renovated. Since then it has been used by Villa Fohrde eV as an educational and conference center. Seminars and other events are offered and carried out in the facility. In 2010, new buildings were added to the existing buildings.
