The Village Roadshow Limited (VRL) is an established in 1954 Australian Group of the entertainment industry , based in Melbourne . The company operates theme parks and cinemas through various subsidiaries , produces and sells feature films and maintains its own film studios.

history

Roc Kirby founded in 1954 under the name of Village Drive-Ins in the Melbourne suburb of Croydon, one of the first Australian car cinema . In the following years, the family business expanded and the business area was also expanded to include indoor cinemas in major urban centers. From then on, the company traded under the name of Village Drive-ins and Cinema. In the 1960s, film distribution followed and, from 1970, its own film production. In the 1980s there was increased investment in large multiplex cinema centers . In order to cover the necessary capital, the company went public in 1988 after the takeover of De Laurentis Entertainment Limited and the name was changed to Village Roadshow Limited . The Kirby and Burke families continued to hold a majority stake. Further expansions followed with cinemas in 20 countries and the expansion of the business area to include the entire entertainment sector. This included the purchase and development of the theme parks: Wet'n'Wild (originally Cades County) in 1989, Warner Bros. Movie World in 1992, and the acquisition of Sea World . In 1993, Village Roadshow acquired the Triple M radio network. The Australian Outback Spectacular was opened in 2006 and the Village Roadshow Entertainment Group was founded in 2008 , which in addition to the Los Angeles-based entertainment business also included the Village Roadshow Pictures film production and distribution business and, until March 2013, the Concord Music Group . In 2013 the water parks Wet'n'Wild Las Vegas and Wet'n'Wild Sydney opened .

Village Roadshow co-funded and produced seven films between 2014 and 2015, including Mad Max: Fury Road and American Sniper . In 2015, the Village Roadshow Entertainment Group refinanced planned productions of USD 480 million through a bond issue . The bond was placed by JP Morgan Securities LLC . The capital came from a consortium of investors Vine Alternative Investments , Falcon Investment Advisors and Village Roadshow Limited .

Village Roadshow is a public company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange . They operate 722 cinemas in Australia, Singapore and the USA. The company had produced over 85 films as of 2016, some in collaboration with Warner Bros. Entertainment and Sony Pictures . Well-known film productions of the company include a.
