Vincent de Paul Wehrle
Vincent de Paul Wehrle OSB (born December 19, 1855 in Berg , Canton St. Gallen , Switzerland as Johann Baptist Wehrle ; † November 2, 1941 ) was an American religious and first bishop of Bismarck , North Dakota .
Life
Johann Baptist Wehrle entered the Benedictine order and took the religious name Vincent de Paul . On September 2, 1876, he made temporal and three years later his perpetual profession . On April 23, 1882, he received the sacrament of ordination .
Pope Pius X appointed him on April 9, 1910 as the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Bismarck. The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Saint Paul , John Ireland , on May 19 of the same year; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Duluth , James McGolrick , and the Bishop of Saint Cloud , James Trobec .
On December 11, 1939, he resigned as Bishop of Bismarck and was appointed titular bishop of Teos .
