Vital Darbellay (born May 19, 1929 in Liddes ; † November 29, 2019 ; entitled to live there ) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ).

Life

From 1944 to 1948 he attended the teachers' seminar in Sion and in 1961 obtained the secondary teacher license at the University of Freiburg . From 1948 to 1970 he taught at the Collège Sainte-Marie in Martigny .

On November 26, 1979 he was elected to the National Council in the canton of Valais . From 1984 to 1989 he was vice-president of the national party and from 1989 to 1991 president of the CVP parliamentary group in the Swiss parliament . On December 3, 1995, he left the great chamber.

Darbellay belonged to the Christian social wing of the CVP and presided over the Fédération des syndicats chrétiens du Valais for 20 years . He was also very involved in the social field. Other mandates were the presidia of Pro Familia Switzerland (1983 to 1994), Caritas Switzerland (1987 to 1997) and the Valais Foundation for the benefit of the mentally handicapped (from 1990).

Darbellay was married and lived in Martigny. He is the uncle of Christophe Darbellay .
