Vito Marino Caferra

Vito Marino Caferra (* 1939 in Acquaviva delle Fonti ) is an Italian legal scholar, judge and professor .

Life

Caferra studied law and in April 1965 was judge of the first instance at the district court in Novara , Piedmont , after which he moved to Noci in the Apulian province of Bari . In Bari he was initially a judge of the Third Criminal Chamber and the First Civil Chamber, was a member of the jury court in Bari for about a decade and then moved to the Bari Appeal Court, where he was appointed chairman of the First Civil Chamber in 1998. In the same year he was elected to the “Supreme Council of Justice”, the Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura (CSM), to which he was a member from 1998 to 2002. In December 2007 he was appointed President of the Court of Appeal in Bari by the CSM, which he held until November 28, 2014.

Under Prime Minister Enrico Letta , Caferra was elected to the Constitutional Reform Commission in 2013.

From 1974 to 2007 he held a chair in private law at the Law Faculty of the University of Bari and published numerous articles on the topics of liabilities, liability law and family law.

In the early 1990s his interest in journalism changed and he published books on corruption in the Italian public administration ( Il sistema della corruzione , 1992, Il magistrato senza qualità , 1996). To date, he has published a total of 11 monographs on law and the legal system in Italy.
