Vittore Gottardi

Vittore "Vito" Gottardi (born September 24, 1941 ; † December 18, 2015 ) was a Swiss football player .

Athletic career

Gottardi started playing football at FC Rapid Lugano . From 1959 he ran for the competition team of FC Lugano , which fluctuated between the first and second league as a lift team . In early 1962, he moved within the National League A to FC Lausanne-Sport , with which he won the Swiss Cup in 1964 with a 2-0 final win over FC La Chaux-de-Fonds . He appeared alongside Norbert Eschmann as a goal scorer.

In 1965 Gottardi returned to FC Lugano, where he became a selection player in the " Nati ". National coach Alfredo Foni nominated him for the squad at the 1966 World Cup finals . There he celebrated his international debut in the 2-1 defeat against Spain in the second group match , and ultimately he was eliminated with the team after three defeats as the bottom of the group. Until 1967 he stayed in the circle of the Swiss selection, he played a total of four international matches.

Gottardi was more successful at club level. Under coach Louis Maurer , the club settled in the top third of the table. In 1968 he reached the Cup final, but in the 2-1 win over FC Winterthur Gottardi was without a commitment. In the summer he moved to AC Bellinzona , where he made his third Cup final in 1969 . This time, however, he drew the short straw in the 2-0 defeat by double goalscorer Rudi Nafziger against FC St. Gallen . In 1970 he ended his active career.
