Vittorina Benvenuti (born June 11, 1884 in Alexandria , † May 6, 1965 in Ancona ) was an Italian actress .

Life

Benvenuti has played on the stage in Turin since the beginning of the 20th century - often in Piedmontese dialect pieces - and then in several well-known ensembles, where she also took on male roles (like the Orazio in Hamlet next to Ruggero Ruggeri ) and alongside theater greats such as Alfredo de Sanctis , Maria Melato , Marta Abba , Evi Maltagliati and Memo Benassi performed, but above all was seen artistically and privately alongside her colleague Guglielmo Barnabò .

After an early role in the silent La bellezza del mondo , from 1937 Benvenuti was hired for standard supporting roles as mother, governess, mother-in-law or older friend, which the perfectionist interpreted in an appropriate, reserved manner. She rarely got the opportunity to impersonate more complex characters, but had the opportunity to work under directors such as Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia , Alfredo Guarini , Vittorio Cottafavi and Nunzio Malasomma and, as a reliable supporting actress, prepared the ground for the stars of the films almost unnoticed.

Benvenutri also worked for the radio; before the Second World War for the “Ente Italiano per le Audizioni Radiofoniche” (EIAR), then for the RAI . Several times she was active for the young medium of television.
