Vladimir Bebic

Vladimir Bebić (born August 4, 1946 in Ljubljana , SFR Yugoslavia , † June 16, 2009 in Rijeka ) was a Croatian politician .

He studied political science at the University of Zagreb . At the Croatian War he participated as a volunteer on the part of the Croatian armed forces . He worked as a referee and functionary in boxing .

He has been a member of the Riječki demokratski savez , a regional party in Rijeka, since 1990 , for which he was elected to the Croatian Parliament in 1992 ; he was a member of parliament until 1995. He became a member of the Socijalnodemokratska unija , at that time the only clearly left-wing party in the country, and in 1996, as the successor to Branko Horvat, chairman of this party, which, however, failed to enter parliament. In 2007 the SDU merged with five other left parties to form Ljevica Hrvatske (Left of Croatia), and Bebić became deputy party chairman. He died of cancer at the age of 62.
