Vladimir Becić (born June 1, 1886 in Slavonski Brod , today Croatia , † May 24, 1954 in Zagreb ) was a Yugoslav painter.

Vladimir Becić first studied law and at the same time attended private painting courses with Menci Klement Crnčić and Bela Čikoš . He exhibited at the anniversary exhibition of the Croatian Art Cooperative and at the first Yugoslavian art exhibition in Belgrade . In 1905 and 1906 he went to Munich , where he took private painting courses, and in 1906 was accepted at the academy with Hugo von Habermann . This class from 1905 to 1910 included all four members of the so-called Munich Circle (in addition to Becić, these were Josip Račić , Miroslav Kraljević and Oskar Herman ).

In 1909 he finished his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and then went to Paris , where he attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière . There he got to know Manet and Cézanne's works. He even made copies of Manet's works, which he exhibited in the Salon d'Automne . Becić worked as a draftsman for the Parisian newspaper L'Illustration .

He returned to Zagreb in 1910. He had his first own exhibition in the Ulrich Salon . Becić also exhibited at the Zagreb Spring Salon . In the following years, from 1921 to 1927, he exhibited with the group of independent artists (Jerolim Miše, Vladimir Varlaj, Joza Kljaković, Frano Kršinić , Ivan Meštrović and Ljubo Babić ). Together with Babić and Miše, he was one of the members of the group of three, which was founded in 1930 and which cultivated the poetics of so-called pure painting of realism .

Even his earliest works tend towards clarity and modeling in the beginning. His oil and watercolor sketches radiate freshness. In his last years he was inspired by Istria and the Neretva Valley.

In 1934 he was appointed full professor at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1934 Becić was a member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts .
