Vladimir Pištalo , Владимир Пиштало (* 1960 in Sarajevo , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian writer who lives in the USA.

Life

Vladimir Pištalo grew up in Mostar , Kraljevo and Belgrade . He studied law in Belgrade and Sarajevo. After 1990 he wrote for the Belgrade news magazine Vreme .

Pištalo emigrated to the USA in 1993 . He received his PhD in American history from the University of New Hampshire with a thesis Juggling with Three Identities: Serbian, Yugoslav, and American Identities Among the American Serbs, 1900-2000 . He teaches history at Becker College in Worcester , Massachusetts . Pištalo was also a visiting professor in Belgrade. Occasionally he writes for the Belgrade newspapers Politika and B92.net .

Pištalo has published four novels, some novels and short stories, as well as several non-fiction books in Serbia. His novel biography about Nikola Tesla received the 2008 NIN Literature Prize in Serbia and became a bestseller there. His novel Venice was shortlisted for the 2011 NIN Prize.
