The Volarský potok (German Langwiesenbach , also Schreinerbach ) is a left tributary of the Warm Vltava (Teplá Vltava) in the Czech Republic .

course

The Volarský potok has its source three and a half kilometers northeast of Volary in the Bohemian Forest . Its source lies on the Hochmark on the southern slope of the Bobík ( Schreiner , 1264 m nm) and the northern slope of the Jedlová ( Stögerberg , 1088 m nm). The upper reaches of the stream through a wide valley between the Dvorský vrch ( Brix , 914 m nm) and Steinberg (874 m nm) past the Wüstung Kováře U Lukse and the monolayer Myslivny, Meindlova Pila ( Meindlsäge ) and Zelené Dvory ( Griinhof ) to the southeast in the Volarská kotlina ( Wallerer plain ). Thereafter, the stream takes a southerly direction and flows through the city Volary ( Wallern ) where the stream runs underground through the center between the inn "U Potůčku" and the bus. On the southern outskirts of Volary the Volarský potok comes to light again and is bridged by the Číčenice – Haidmühle railway line. His further run leads past Volary-Mlýny, the Volary motocross track, the Motokáry Volary site and the Volary sewage treatment plant through a swampy meadow. At Planerův Dvůr ( Planerhof ) the stream is crossed by the state road I / 39 between Volary and Horní Planá . Then the Volarský potok leaves the Volarská kotlina and breaks through the range of hills to the south of it to the Vltavická brázda ( Vltava ridge ). At its lower reaches the brook winds in numerous meanders through the swampy breakthrough valley. After 10.5 kilometers, the Volarský potok flows into the warm Vltava west of Chlum ( Humwald ) at the Mrtvý luh ( Dead Au or Filzau ) bog . A bunker line of the Czechoslovak Wall extends along the estuary .

history

The water power of the creek used to drive the Austenmühle below Wallern, at its tributary Gutbach there were two more watermills, the Zaunmühle and the community mill.

Since the end of the 19th century, the Schreinerbach in the town of Wallern was increasingly polluted by the discharge of sewage. In 1939 the stream running through the town center was canalized and then built over with a road ( Česká ul. ). In the second half of the 20th century, the water quality of the creek used as a cesspool of Volary deteriorated further, which is why the locals sometimes referred to it as smradlák ( stinker ). In 1995, a sewage treatment plant for the urban sewage was built below Volary on the right bank of the stream, after which the Volarský potok was revitalized.

During the June floods of 2009 , after four days of heavy rain with rainfall of up to 145.8 mm / h and a total of 89 l / m², the Volarský potok burst its banks in the late evening of June 25, 2009 in Volary and flooded the city.
