Volker Anding (director)

Volker Anding (born May 31, 1950 in Radevormwald ) is a German director , multimedia artist and university lecturer. He has been awarded the Grimme Prize several times .

Life

Anding studied communication design at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal from 1967 to 1972 and he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, with Fritz Schwegler and Irmin Kamp. In 1977/78 he received the MoMA PS1 scholarship together with Thomas Struth . The first video art projects and short films followed , which were shown at international festivals and broadcast by numerous broadcasters. In 1980 he became a master student of Irmin Kamp.

For the ZDF documentary The Fall of the Elephant about the fall of the circus elephant Tuffi from the Wuppertal suspension railway , he received the Adolf Grimme Prize with bronze for directing in 1987 . For his feature film Daily TV (1988/89) Anding u. a. with actor and presenter Chris Howland . The filmic gloss on media and viewing habits was co-produced by the ZDF- Kleine Fernsehspiel . The art-music format Donner's Tag on Kanal 4 culture channel (40 episodes) received the Grimme Prize in silver in 1991 .

In 1999 he received his third Grimme Prize for the documentary Ratten .

In cooperation with ZDF / ARTE , the documentary film projects Ghosts are also only people (2001) and The Spooky House (2003). The documentary The Spirits That Called Me was released in 2018.

Anding also works as a university lecturer. From 1992 to 1993 he was a lecturer at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in the “New Media - Theory and Practice” department, where he focused on documentary film . At the Institute for Music and Media at the Robert Schumann University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf , he has held a teaching position for script development and editing dramaturgy since 2002.

Volker Anding lives and works in Wuppertal .
