Volker Heinsberg

Volker Heinsberg (born May 11, 1943 in Gotha ; † September 28, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat and was the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Lithuania from September 5, 2005 to 2008 .

Life

Volker Heinsberg completed a degree in German , political , legal and political science . After joining the Foreign Service in 1973, he was employed at the embassy in the Soviet Union and at the Foreign Office in Bonn.

From 1979 to 1982 he was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Libya . This was followed by a position at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and again at the Foreign Office in Bonn.

From 1991 to 1993 he was the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Haiti . He was then permanent representative of the head of the permanent representation to the Western European Union (WEU) in Brussels until 1997 . From 1997 to 2001 he was Head of Unit 202 ( European Security and Defense Policy , ESDP) at the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn.

Before his assignment in Lithuania, Volker Heinsberg was ambassador and head of the German delegation to the Geneva Conference on Disarmament from 2001 to September 2005 .
