Volker Patzenhauer (born December 21, 1959 ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga , the highest East German football class. He played there for FC Hansa Rostock . He was also a national player in the GDR junior team .

Athletic career

In 1970 Patzenhauer became district schoolmaster with the BSG locomotive in Neustrelitz . Then he was delegated to the regional soccer focus, the FC Hansa Rostock, where he went through the other youth teams. In the autumn of 1976 he was accepted into the squad of the GDR junior national team and played four junior internationals by August 1977. For the 1978/79 season Patzenhauer was nominated as a midfielder for the squad of the junior league team of FC Hansa. In the same season, the first team rose from the league. For the GDR league season 1979/80, the 1.74 m tall Patzenhauer was included in the squad of the 1st team, but with three point matches made only a minor contribution to the Rostock's immediate resurgence. In the subsequent season 1980/81 Patzenhauer was again downgraded to the 2nd team that played in the junior league. Nevertheless, he came on the 8th game day for his first league assignment. In the encounter between FC Hansa and Chemie Böhlen (2-0) on October 18, 1980, he was substituted on for defender Hans-Joachim Wandke in the 56th minute .

In the second half of the season he was used between the 16th and 26th matchday in eight other league games, in which he completed the full 90 minutes except for one game as a midfielder. Then Patzenhauer moved back to the 1st team for 1981/82, but could not prevail as a regular player either in this season or until 1984. For the 1984/85 season he was again delegated to the 2nd team. He was also later no longer used in league games, so that his record for the years from 1980 to 1984 shows only 32 first division games.

For the second half of the 1984/85 season, Patzenhauer moved to the GDR league club TSG Bau Rostock . There he played 22 second division games by September 1985, initially as a right striker, from the beginning of 1985 in midfield. In November 1985 Patzenhauer had to start his military service and was given the opportunity to continue playing football with the army sports community Vorwärts Fünfeichen . The team had just been promoted to the third-class district league Neubrandenburg and immediately became district champion.

Since Fünfeichen was not funded by the central army sports association, the team was not allowed to take part in the promotion games to the GDR League, so that Patzenhauer had to play third-rate for the rest of his army service until the summer of 1987. Then Patzenhauer went back to Rostock, but there he joined the district division TSG Bau Rostock , where he finally ended his career as a football player in the performance area. As a recreational athlete, Patzenhauer played for the over-40 team at Rostock FC 95 in 2009, and he also worked as a qualified sports teacher as a junior coach at FC Hansa Rostock.
