Volker Pellet

Volker Pellet (born October 4, 1961 in Nördlingen ) is a German diplomat . He has been Ambassador to the Dominican Republic since July 2018 .

Life

Volker Pellet studied law in Bonn and Göttingen from 1982 , passed the first state examination in 1988 and completed his legal clerkship by 1992. In 1992 he completed his studies with the second state examination in law and received his doctorate with a thesis on "The travel contract guarantee in Germany, England and France and the effects of the EC package travel directive".

Pellet is married and has three grown sons.

career

After a year as a lawyer in Hamburg , Pellet joined the Foreign Service in 1993 and completed the preparatory service for the higher service by 1994. After working as a consultant in the economic department of the Foreign Office , his first assignment abroad took him to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belgrade ( Serbia ) in 1995 , where he worked as a consultant for economics and consular affairs.

From 1998 to 2001 he was press spokesman in the Foreign Office, then moved to the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations , New York, as Security Council Officer . He stayed there until 2003 and then went to the Federal Chancellery as deputy head of department . From 2007 to 2010 he was Deputy Head of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Havana ( Cuba ) and then became Head of the Department for Real Estate Management Abroad in the Foreign Office.

In early 2015, the Governing Mayor of Berlin appointed him Chief of Protocol. He held this post until 2017, then moved back to the Foreign Office as Head of Export Control and was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic , in July 2018 as the successor to Sabine Bloch . He was received by the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina Sánchez , on September 6, 2018, to present his credentials .
