Career
Volker Schmalöer attended the Eringerfeld Castle boarding school and studied theater and media studies in Cologne. He began his theater career at the Schauspielhaus Bochum , where he worked with Frank-Patrick Steckel and Andrea Breth . Since then he has directed in Mannheim, Kassel, Oberhausen, Münster, Graz, Zurich, Cologne, Hanover and Essen. His classic productions (such as Bertolt Brecht's “ Baal ” and Tennessee Williams “ Endstation Sehnsucht ”), as well as his world premieres (such as “Harley” or “Wermut”) found supraregional importance .
He also directed Heinrich von Kleist , William Shakespeare , Gerhart Hauptmann , Abi Morgan , Friedrich Schiller , Anton Chekhov , Gotthold Ephraim Lessing , Peter Handke and others.
