Volker Wezel
Volker Wezel (born September 15, 1965 ) is a German football referee .
Wezel has been a referee for SV 03 Tübingen since 1983 . From 1993 he was a DFB referee and from 1995 to 2002 referee of the 2nd Bundesliga. On May 13, 2000, he headed his only game in the Bundesliga ( Hamburger SV against SpVgg Unterhaching 3-0). It is the last referee in Bundesliga history to have directed only one game in this league.
He was FIFA - referee assistant and came among others the Confederations Cup in 2005 in Germany and at the European Championship in 2008 in the quarter-final between Italy and Spain used.
After reaching the age limit for Bundesliga referees, he had to end his active career after 20 years of membership in the DFB. On May 11, 2013 he assisted for the last time in the Bundesliga ( FC Bayern Munich against FC Augsburg , final score 3-0) on the line.
Wezel is the technical director, also leads courses for beginners for the WFV ( Württemberg Football Association ) and lives in Bühl (near Tübingen).
