Volkmar Prager (born November 13, 1945 ) is a former German football player. In 1970 he played for BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

With the win of the GDR junior cup with SC Frankfurt (Oder) in 1962, Volkmar Prager's career in GDR-wide football began. In the 1963/64 season he played his first four games in the second-rate GDR league with the sports club . After the season, the Frankfurt had to relegate to the third-class district league, from which they did not return.

Prager only appeared in the GDR league again in the 1967/68 season as a player in the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt. In the squad of the GDR league team, he was only intended as a substitute player and was only used in six league games. In the 1968/69 season, in which BSG Stahl rose to the GDR league, Prager was only involved in one game. In the league season 1969/70 he was not part of the squad of the 1st team, but was used as a substitute in two league games. The rest of the time Prager spent with the 2nd team in the GDR league, where he played 15 out of 30 games.

The 1970/71 season had to spend the relegated league team in the district league, as the BSG Stahl were charged with serious violations of the association's statutes. With Prager, the Eisenhüttenstadt team became district champion in 1971 and rose again to the GDR league. There Prager developed into a regular player in the defense and missed only 44 games of 176 GDR league games played in the seasons from 1971/72 to 1978/79. As a defensive player, he still scored twelve goals. In the 1971/72 season, the BSG Stahl took part in the promotion games to the league. Of the eight encounters, Prager played seven games, but the team missed promotion. Although he was once again included in the squad of the GDR league team as a 33-year-old for the 1979/80 season, he was no longer used. This ended his career in the higher-class league operation, in which he had come to two league games and 158 GDR league appearances with twelve goals.

In the seasons 1981/82 and 1982/83 Volkmar Prager was assistant coach of the Eisenhüttenstadt league team.
