Volkmar Resch

Volkmar Resch (born August 14, 1938 in Planitz ) was a soccer player and soccer coach in Zwickau . For Motor / Sachsenring Zwickau he played in the GDR Oberliga , the highest East German football class. He once won the GDR soccer cup .

Resch began playing football in 1953 for the BSG unit in Zwickau. Then he played until he was 25 for the company sports club activist Karl Marx in Zwickau, most recently in the second-rate GDR league . In the summer of 1963 he moved to local rivals, the upper division Motor Zwickau. Resch played his first game in the league team on matchday 13 of the 1963/64 season. In the league game Lok Stendal - Motor Zwickau held on December 8, 1963, he played as a right winger for the failed Günter Jacob . For the rest of the season, Resch was no longer used in the league. In the following season 1964/65 he was already a regular player, he usually completed all point games as a right midfielder. In the following seasons, too, he was part of the permanent staff of the Zwickau family, who called themselves Sachsenring Zwickau from 1968 onwards. Resch won his only title in the GDR soccer cup. On April 30, 1967 he stood as a right striker in the cup final, which Motor Zwickau won 3-0 over Hansa Rostock. After Resch was able to play only ten league point games in the 1969/70 season, he was used again in 21 league games in his last league season 1970/71. On June 16, 1971, the last day of the season, he was in the match between Dynamo Dresden and Sachsenring Zwickau (4-2) from the 72nd minute for the last time in the Zwickau league team. He had come within eight seasons to 146 of 208 possible league games and had scored six goals as a regular midfielder. He also played in a European game. He ended his career as a soccer player in the second team of Sachsenring Zwickau.

This team was also his first coaching station. From 1978 to 1986 he was assistant coach of the 1st Sachsenring team and survived four head coaches during this time before he left the coaching team in 1988 together with Jürgen Croy . He then took on the role of team leader for the 1st team.
