history

Wildeshausen branch

The bank was founded on October 18, 1896 as the “Wildeshauser Spar- und Kreditkassenverein eGmuH” by the first 24 members. The entry in the cooperative register followed four days later . In November 1896, business was started with the help of the Petzold company from Magdeburg. In 1914 the name “Verein” was parted with, until 1978 the name “Wildeshauser Spar- und Loankasse” remained. This made the savings and loan association one of the first banks to join the Weser-Ems cooperative association and is still a member of the association today. In 1932 the then managers Wilhelm Erdmann, Hermann Behrens and Heinrich Grashorn decided to buy their own property. Thus in 1957 the first own bank building of the savings and loan office was built on Westerstraße / corner of Bahnhofstraße. Due to the steady growth of the bank, the rooms were no longer sufficient a few years later, so the neighboring building on Bahnhofstrasse was acquired and the bank enlarged.

In 1978 the name was changed to Volksbank Wildeshausen eG, and further neighboring properties could be acquired in order to continue to do justice to the growth of the bank.

After the merger in 2002 with Volksbank Harpstedt eG and Volksbank Dötlingen eG, the name was changed to Volksbank Wildeshauser Geest eG.

Today the Volksbank is still located at Westerstraße 4 and, as a result of the merger, has additional bank branches in Harpstedt (Burgstraße 3) and Dötlingen (Heuberge 1B).

Dötlingen branch office (Neerstedt)

On August 23, 1896, the Volksbank in Dötlingen was founded by the first 36 members under the name “Spar- und Loanhenskasse eGmuH”. The first business operations began on November 1st, 1896 in the house of the Rendanten Köhler (which is now Café Behr). In 1897, the savings and loan association was involved in the establishment of a central bank for money transactions in Oldenburg and the surrounding area.

The bank offices were located in the "Temple" or in Meyer's Gasthof, which is now the Schützenhof.

Due to further growth and the large capacity utilization, the savings and loan fund joined Raiffeisen-Datenverarbeitung Weser Ems GmbH in 1965. A branch in Neerstedt's own new bank building was also opened this year.

In 1970 the construction of a bank building in Brettorf followed, 13 years later this no longer met the requirements and was therefore renewed.

In 1972/73 the main office in Dötlingen was rebuilt and modernized in 1991.

Today only the branch in Neerstedt still exists, which was built in 2010 on the street Heuberge 1B.

Harpstedt branch

The savings and loan fund, registered cooperative with unlimited liability in Harpstedt, was founded on March 10, 1924. It is no longer possible to determine who exactly gave the impetus to found the company. What is certain, however, is that the 23 founders were convinced of Friedrich-Wilhelm Raiffeisen's idea .

The first office room was made available by the renter Wilhelm Nolte on May 1, 1924 in Langen Strasse in Harpstedt, and business operations could begin. At that time the interest was quantified quite differently: in June 1924 customers paid 60% debit interest on loans and received 18% on deposits. Later, in early 1925, interest rates stabilized: 15% debit and 8% credit.

Just two years after the company was founded, the first employee had to be hired due to the workload, but the first counter could not be purchased until 1929.

In 1937 there were two moves: from the office in Langen Strasse to the “Schorling'sche Haus” in Burgstrasse, and from here to the “Roßbach'sche Haus” back to Lange Strasse. This house was hit three times by bombs during the Second World War - as a result, the bank decided to build a new building at Burgstrasse 3 in 1951. Since then, this building has been renovated and updated several times. a. 1968 and 2013.
