The Volkswagen Arena Istanbul is a multi-purpose hall in the Sarıyer district of the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul .

history

The hall was opened in June 2014 and is part of the UNIQ Istanbul culture and event center . The main sporting user is the basketball team of Darüşşafaka SK Istanbul . She plays her league games in Ayhan Şahenk Spor Salonu with 3500 seats. For international games such as the EuroLeague or the EuroCup, the club has been moving to the larger hall since the 2015/16 season . The arena was officially inaugurated on November 5, 2015 with the EuroLeague game against CSKA Moscow (75:80). For the EuroLeague the arena u. a. with changing rooms and LED - display panels and a video cube fitted above the playing field, the VW Arena has 5,000 seats, 24 boxes and 88 VIP courts. There are 1200 chargeable parking spaces around the hall.

In addition to sports, various events such as concerts or dance and theater shows take place in the arena. There is a maximum of 5800 visitors, including standing room. In addition to the VW Arena, UNIQ Istanbul has a smaller event hall called UNIQ Hall with 1200 seats, food courts , exhibition areas, shops and offices.

On April 13, 2018, Darüşşafaka SK won the EuroCup 2017/18 with a victory in the Volkswagen Arena .
