Ludwig Hermann Volprecht Riedesel Freiherr zu Eisenbach (born June 30, 1852 in Darmstadt ; † April 23, 1939 ibid) was a German nobleman and last hereditary marshal in Hesse.

Life

Riedesel was the son of the 30th Hereditary Marshal Ludwig Riedesel zu Eisenbach (1806-1858) and his wife Wilhelmine Countess of Otting, Fünfstetten and Schönfeld. He married Elisabeth von Harnier on August 2, 1883 in Echzell (born October 16, 1862 in Echzell, † March 13, 1947 in Ludwigseck ).

Riedesel became an officer in the 24th Dragoon Regiment in Darmstadt and was then transferred to the Garde du Corps in Potsdam. In 1879 he went to Bulgaria with Alexander von Battenberg as his adjutant and court marshal . With Alexander's resignation, he returned to Germany in 1886 and became the chief steward of the wife of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig , Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . After the Grand Duke remarried with Eleonore zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich , he became their Lord Chamberlain. After the November Revolution he withdrew to his estates. He was Imperial Knight of the Order of St. John .

Riedesel represented the constituency of Rotenburg in the municipal council of Kassel from 1899 to 1919 . He was there from 1899 to 1904, 1906 to 1912 and 1917 to 1918 a member of the main committee, 1914 in the submission committee and 1916 in the special committee for loan applications.
