The Von Bach Dam , originally the Swakop Dam or Sartorius von Bach Dam , is a dam with a reservoir of the same name in Namibia , around five kilometers southeast of Okahandja and 60 kilometers north of the Namibian capital Windhoek . The Von-Bach-Damm is named after the politician Hans Wilhelm Sartorius von Bach (born January 4, 1904 in Detmold ; † May 11, 1975 in Windhoek) and was completed in 1970. Its reservoir has a capacity of around 48.56 million m³ , making it the main water supply for Windhoek.
The Von Bach reservoir is fed by the Swakop and is the center of the so-called “Von Bach Wildlife Park” and the popular Von Bach recreation area , in which, among other things, water skiing and other water sports are offered. There are pumping systems for supplying water from the Omatako Dam and the Swakoppforte Dam .
