Hippel is the name of an East Prussian noble family .

history

The reliable line of the family begins with Melchior Hippel (1625–1677), cloth merchant and councilor in Rastenburg . It is named after the Hippe (sickle), as can be seen from the seal and coat of arms .

Nobility rise

The elevation to the imperial nobility took place on January 3, 1790 in Vienna for the brothers Theodor Gottlieb Hippel , royal Prussian Privy Councilor of War in Königsberg , and Gotthard Friedrich Hippel , pastor of Arnau , as well as for their cousins, the brothers Dr. med. Georg Hippel , Mayor of Rastenburg , and Melchior Hippel , City Treasurer of Rastenburg, as well as their cousin Christoph Hippel , City Treasurer of Johannisburg . The Prussian nobility recognition for the same followed on November 6, 1790 in Berlin .

  • Coat of arms from 1790 (identical to that of the Hippel family of hammer masters, who were wealthy in the Principality of Sagan in the 15th century ): In blue a golden lion, in the front paws holding a natural grape. On the helmet with blue and gold blankets a growing white clad maiden in a blue bodice , in each hand holding a sickle on a golden handle.
