Modjo was a French pop - duo , consisting of the producer Romain Tranchart and the singer Yann Destagnol (aka Yann Destal). Her greatest success was the single Lady (Hear Me Tonight) in the summer of 2000 .

biography

Romain Tranchart was born in Paris , moved with his family to Mexico and Algeria, and finally to Brazil . There he learned, inspired by the Jazz , the guitar playing . Back in Paris he played in the rock band Seven Tracks and also had some appearances in Parisian clubs. The band split shortly afterwards. During this time he discovered his love for house music . Influenced by DJ Sneak, Ian Pooley and especially Daft Punk , he released his first own single What You're Gonna Do Baby on Vertigo Records in 1998 under the name Funk Legacy . He later decided to go to the American School of Modern Music (an offshoot of the Berkeley Institute of Music ) in Paris.

Yann Destagnol was also born in Paris. As a child he learned the flute and clarinet . In his youth he was inspired by the Beatles , the Beach Boys and David Bowie . He also learned to play the piano and guitar. He also started writing and composing his own songs .

After playing as a drummer and partly as a singer in several bands, he met Romain Tranchart in 1998. They banded together and Modjo was founded. The two musicians got down to work immediately and Lady (Hear Me Tonight) was born .

The guitar riff of the chic hit Soup for One , paired with disco and pop elements, reached the top positions in the European charts in the late summer of 2000 in the times of daft punk and the associated French house . In Switzerland and England it was even enough for first place.

The song, however, remained a flash in the pan . The follow-up singles Chillin ' (2001) and What I Mean (2001) were still represented in some charts, but mostly achieved middle positions. The last two singles No more Tears (2001) and On Fire (2002) were commercially unsuccessful.

The two Modjo protagonists then devoted themselves to their solo projects: Tranchart brought out remixes by various artists (including Golden Boys by Res, Sexy Lady by Shaggy or California by Mylène Farmer ) and Destagnol released the album The Great Blue Scar , with which he was in France was very successful.
