Vratislav Effenberger

Vratislav Effenberger (born April 22, 1923 in Nymburk , † August 10, 1986 in Prague ) was a Czech literary theorist.

After graduating from industrial school, which he graduated from high school in 1944, he studied chemistry and art history as well as aesthetics at the philosophical faculty. From 1946 he worked at the Czechoslovak Film Institute, from which he was released in 1954. He then worked as a worker until 1966 and later took a position at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (FÚ ČSAV). In 1970 he was dismissed for political reasons and worked again as a worker, from 1975 as a night watchman and in 1977 he retired early.

Vratislav Effenberger was a leading figure in the surrealist group as an organizer and theorist . In 1969 he edited the surrealist magazine Analogon . Around 1968 he published in a number of newspapers and magazines dealing with literature, theater or art.

Works

The largest part was self-published or is still available as manuscripts. His film script Surovost života a cynismus fantasie ( Rawness of Life and the Cynicism of Fantasy), ( Toronto 1984), Praha 1991, has become famous . In addition, numerous of his articles have been published in newspapers and magazines. Some works were confiscated and destroyed by the security service.
