Vreni Giger

Vreni Giger (born November 26, 1973 in Teufen AR ) is a Swiss cook . In 2003 she was one of the first women to be awarded the title «Cook of the Year». It made a name for itself with its philosophy of seasonal fresh market cuisine with regional and sustainable products.

Career

Growing up in a very traditional farming family, Vreni Giger had to help out with the household from an early age. While her three older brothers worked in the stable, she cooked for the family. She knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a cook. From 1990 to 1993 Vreni Giger completed her culinary apprenticeship at the Hotel Linde in Teufen. She then cooked in Turi Maag's “Blumenau” in Lömmenschwil . This was followed by engagements in the “Eichmühle” in Wädenswil and in Roland Jöhri's “ Talvo ” in Champfèr / St. Moritz.

From 1997 to 2016 she worked as head chef at the “Jägerhof” in St. Gallen and in October 2003 became a partner in the business. In 2003 she was named Swiss Chef of the Year, and since 2004 Gault-Millau has been awarding her cooking skills 17 points without interruption, which has consistently made the Jägerhof one of the best gourmet addresses in Eastern Switzerland.

The move to Zurich took place in 2016 . Since then, the Swiss citizen has worked as operations manager and host in the restaurants of the Sorell HotelRigiblick ” on the Zürichberg . Under her leadership, the «Rigiblick» was awarded one star in the 2018 Michelin Guide .
