The volcano museum in the old Daun district administration was created as a supplement to the existing Hillesheim , Manderscheid and Gerolstein geopaths and is part of the Vulkaneifel nature and geopark .

In addition to many information boards, photos and exhibits from the Vulkaneifel , but also from currently active volcanoes from Europe and Asia, provide insights into the geological development of the Vulkaneifel. There are now several volcano museums spread across the Eifel. Another is, for example, the Maarmuseum in Manderscheid and the Strohn volcano house .

Exhibits

Interactive computer models of the geological and volcanic Eifel can be found in the exhibition rooms . The phenomena of continental movement ( plate tectonics ) are made clear on a large overview map in the entrance area , and the currently still active volcanoes can be made visible by light signals. A computer simulation shows the distribution of the continents in the past geological ages and in the future. The formation and cycle of the rocks are explained using sample exhibits. In the “Eifel volcanism” exhibition room, visitors can use a model of a cinder cone to cause a volcanic eruption themselves.

Other models show the entire area of the volcanically shaped West Eifel, as well as the formation of the types of volcanoes in the Eifel region. The models are in turn complemented by numerous exhibits from the Vulkaneifel. In the Geocenter Vulkaneifel all geological facilities of the Vulkaneifel are summarized on an information board. These include the Devon Route, Red Sandstone Route, Volcano Route, Mineral Spring Route as well as mining and other museum facilities. Again, the visitor can make geologically interesting locations visible on a clear wall map at the push of a button. In the basement of the museum is the Geo-Zentrum's training center with a wide range of media and exhibits on the subject of geology.
