The Vysoký Ostrý (German Hohe Wostrey , 587 m) is a prominent mountain near Ústí nad Labem ( Aussig / Elbe ) in the Bohemian Central Uplands ( České středohoří ) in the Czech Republic . Because of its view and the distinctive location in a loop of the Elbe, the mountain was formerly known as Elbe- Rigi .

Location and surroundings

The Vysoký Ostrý is located near Ústí nad Labem, about four kilometers to the southeast. At the foot of the mountain - directly on the Elbe - are the districts of Střekov ( Terror Stone ) and Brná nad Labem ( Birnai ). On the shoulder of the mountain are the small villages Nová Ves ( Neudorf ) and Kojetice ( Kojetitz ), which also belong to Ústí. The Sluneční stráň nature reserve was established on the west side in 1968 .

geology

The Vysoký Ostrý as a typical cone mountain of the Bohemian Central Uplands is made up without exception of volcanic rocks of the Tertiary . The impressive rock formations at the summit are made of basalt , which, however, only imperfectly forms the typical hexagonal columns. There are also conglomerate-like tuffs on the steep, rocky west flank .

view

From the viewing platform on the summit rock, a largely unobstructed all-round view is possible, only to the north are tall trees blocking the view. The view down into the rocky breakthrough valley of the Elbe, but also over the urban area of Ústí nad Labem, is remarkable. In the west the view wanders to the highest mountain of the Bohemian Central Uplands, the 836 m high Milešovka ( Milleschauer or Donnersberg ), to the north the wall of the Ore Mountains with the mosquito tower limits the horizon. In the northwest you can see the television tower on the ridge of the Buková hora ( Zinkenstein ). Directly to the south, the rugged-looking Varhošť ( Aarhorst ) with its idiosyncratic observation tower and the pointed Lovoš ( Lobosch ) protrude from the undulating mountain landscape.

Paths to the summit

  • On the eastern side of the mountain which leads red marked main trail the Czech Central Mountains of Usti according Litoměřice ( Leitmeritz ) over. A green marked junction leads to the summit.
  • We also recommend the ascent from Brná through the Průčelská rokle ( Prutschel Gorge ) along the Pod Vysokým Ostrým nature trail . a. also leads through the nature reserve Sluneční stráň.
  • The ascent is also possible via a large number of other marked hiking trails.
