Vytautas Sakalauskas

Vytautas Vytautowitsch Sakalauskas (born April 24, 1933 in Kaunas ; † May 29, 2001 in Vilnius ) was a Soviet-Lithuanian politician , member of the Communist Party of Lithuania ( Lietuvos Komunistų Partija ) and former chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Lithuanian SSR .

Life

In 1957 and 1964 Sakalauskas completed his diploma studies at the Kauno politechnikos institutas and then worked as an engineer . From 1959 to 1963 he managed the "Priekalas" state enterprise. From 1983 to 1984 Sakalauskas worked as the first deputy prime minister in the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian SSR . On January 18, 1985, he succeeded Ringaudas Bronislovas Songaila as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Lithuanian SSR. He held this post until Lithuania declared independence from the USSR on March 17, 1990. From 1990 to 1992 he worked in the Soviet embassy in Mozambique .
