history

St. Sebastian Wollenberg, exterior view

It is not clear how long the village has existed. A message from 1673 reports that the "Sebastianus-Acker" had been donated 100 years before the chapel in Wollenberg. According to tradition, the village stood in a different place, called “Kierchheck”, but that all but one man died of the plague . This man then laid the foundation stone for the new settlement in its current location. Therefore the chapel is dedicated to Saint Sebastian , the patron saint against the plague. For the Chapel of the cemetery, which is maintained for several years from the cemetery association Wollenberg belongs. Since then, the cemetery wall has been renovated with a lot of personal work and new paths and a well have been created.

In addition to the chapel, the so-called “chapel” for St. Michael should also be mentioned. It stands on the Sistig side of the village and houses a wooden figure of the patron saint of knights, mercenaries, merchants and sailors, the protector of the church.

In Wollenberg there is a village community center which is housed in the former elementary school (built in 1962). The last use: integrative day care center . On the nearby Altenberg there are castle remains that have not yet been identified.
