Desert green

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wüstengrün is the name of three desert areas in the urban area of Schauenstein in the Upper Franconian district of Hof .

Desert green as a place and field name

For the region, place names with the ending -grün stand for a certain settlement period and indicate newly created usable areas through forest clearing. The preceding desert usually indicates that the area has already been deserted . In the three locations within what is now the urban area of Schauenstein, there was no resettlement, provided that it was settlements and not just field names.

Desert green at Uschertsgrün

Wüstengrün ( Lage ) is located on State Road 2195 between Schauenstein and Weidesgrün or Selbitz . At the junction to Uschertsgrün is the entrance to the desert on the opposite side of the street, the area of which is directly adjacent to the street. The area with the corresponding field name is still recognizable today as a clearing island and is surrounded by forest. In the north and west, desert green is bounded by the Aubächlein, in the east it was the course of the Selbitz stream before the road was built . To the east of the Aubächlein is the Schönberg desert . Up the slope in the direction of Schauenstein is the “Sauplatz”, which is described in the field names in the 1920s as the “pasture and romping area of the city's pigs”. Due to a lack of information, there are no references to the location in the standard literature, and the area is also not a ground monument. Fragments were found. Parts of the area were filled with excavated material from outside the area.

Desert green near Mühldorf

Another deserted area, Wüstengrün ( Lage ), is located northwest of the Mühldorf district in the direction of the municipality of Leupoldsgrün . It has been handed down as a field name and has been documented with broken fragments. According to Hartmann, the Schafhof , today also a district of Schauenstein, emerged from this desert , but the distance speaks against it. The Schafhof is considered a small Vorwerk and a Schauenstein castle estate.
