The Großfalz desert is a nature reserve near Sulzbach-Rosenberg in the Upper Palatinate district of Amberg-Sulzbach in Bavaria .
The nature reserve is located 2.7 kilometers northwest of Sulzbach-Rosenberg.
The 7 hectare area includes the former village of Großenfalz . The inhabitants of the desert were relocated, the buildings fell into disrepair, the gardens overgrown and nature has recaptured part of its original space. Iron ore used to be mined in the immediate vicinity . An extraordinarily species-rich habitat with communities has emerged here. The nature reserve was placed under protection on April 8, 1987.
