Włodzimierz Potasiński

Włodzimierz Potasiński (born July 31, 1956 in Czeladź , Poland ; † April 10, 2010 in Smolensk , Russia ) was a Polish division general (roughly equivalent to a major general ).

He began his military career at the officers' college , which he graduated in 1980. Potasiński then served as platoon leader in the 6th Paratrooper Battalion of the Polish Air Force . 1988 followed the training in the general staff . He then served in various units. From 1993 to 1994 he took part in a United Nations peacekeeping mission as part of a Polish contingent . In the course of his career, General Potasiński took part in various courses, including the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey and the NATO School in Oberammergau . In 2004 he was appointed commander of a brigade and served with this major unit in the Iraq war . In August 2007 he was promoted to Division General (OF-7) and Commander of the Polish Special Forces .

Włodzimierz Potasiński died in a plane crash near Smolensk on April 10, 2010 on the way to a memorial service for the victims of the Katyn massacre .
