Waclaw Antoni von Reybekiel , also Wacek von Reybekiel, (born March 31, 1902 in Zurich ; died 1988 in Stockholm ) was a Polish-Swedish painter, draftsman and art teacher.

Life

Waclaw Antoni von Reybekiel was a son of the Polish doctor and philosopher Adolf von Reybekiel and the psychologist Helena Schapiro . His brother Wilfred Saffiotti von Reybekiel (1912-1976) became a doctor in England. Von Reybekiel attended the upper secondary school on the Uhlenhorst in Hamburg and studied art history, psychology and education at the University of Hamburg from 1921 after graduating from high school . He received his doctorate in 1928 with a dissertation on the fons vitae under Erwin Panofsky .

In addition, he studied painting at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts and then in Berlin at the private school of the former Bauhausler Johannes Itten and a few semesters at the Berlin Art Academy , where he had graphic lessons with Hans Meid and painting with Karl Hofer . In 1933 he married the concert pianist and music teacher Irmgard Heilandt, they had one child. After the transfer of power to the National Socialists in 1933, he was de-registered as an opponent of the regime and emigrated to Sweden.

In Stockholm he was a student of Albert Engström at the Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts and in his studio in Grisslehamn . Von Reybekiel worked as a teacher for plastic anatomy at the art school of Isaac Grünewald , in the sculpture school of Lena Börjesson and in the painting school of Signe Barth . In 1949 he married the painter Maj-Stina Sandberg for the second time, they had two children. With her he opened his own art school. Von Reybekiel had solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions.
