Vadim Valentinovich Sagladin

Wadim Walentinowitsch Sagladin ( Russian Вадим Валентинович Загладин ; born June 23, 1927 in Moscow ; † November 17, 2006 ibid) was a Soviet political scientist and personal advisor to Leonid Brezhnev and Mikhail Gorbachev .

Sagladin graduated with a diploma from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations , where he taught from 1949 to 1956. From 1964 to 1988 he was First Deputy Head of the International Department of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPSU , Central Committee Secretaries were at the time Boris Nikolajewitsch Ponomarjow and Anatoli Fjodorowitsch Dobrynin . He wrote various speeches for Brezhnev . In 1990 he became a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. From 1988 to 1991 he was the closest advisor to Mikhail Gorbachev as head of the international department. He is considered the real architect of glasnost , perestroika and foreign policy of the Soviet Union . From 1991 until his death he worked as a consultant for the Gorbachev Foundation.

In 2004 he was awarded the Planetary Consciousness Prize . He has published various books on international relations. Sagladin was Vice President of the Association for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation (AEAC), which works to improve relations between Russia and NATO .
