The Moscow State Institute of International Relations (short MGIMO or МГИМО for Russian Московский государственный институт международных отношений МИД России , also abbreviated MIMO) is a University of the Russian Federation to train young diplomats .
The state institute , founded in 1944, is subordinate to the Russian Foreign Ministry and today has the status of a university . In addition to Russian students, foreign students are also trained here. The MGIMO is considered one of the leading universities in the training of future political elites (“ cadre forge ”).
Among others, Hans-Dietrich Genscher and Margaret Thatcher were honored with an honorary doctorate from the MGIMO.
