history

In Schafshill , four kilometers from Hexenagger, the Celts and Romans were already mining ore . During this time the iron goods trade flourished . After a long period of rest, the forging trade in the area was revived in 1693 by the Sandersdorf lord of the castle, Max Albrecht von Muggenthal . In the centuries that followed, the forge underwent several modernizations; some of the old tools can still be seen today. At the beginning of the 20th century the smithy changed hands and was no longer owned by the aristocrats . It was shut down before the Second World War and reopened for a few years after the war. The property has been owned by Norbert Huber since the 1960s. In addition to the blacksmith's shop, he also runs a local history museum and often holds guided tours. He also makes small handicraft items as souvenirs .
