The Heiligenhaus wagon bridge is the first wagon bridge in Germany and was built on June 26, 2009 in Heiligenhaus , Mettmann district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), above Bahnhofstrasse near the former Heiligenhaus train station . The bridge is part of a cycle path that was built on the route of the disused Niederbergbahn ( Panoramaradweg Niederbergbahn ). However, reactivation of the railway line is being discussed in the context of the so-called circle line .

design type

The bridge consists of a railway carriage . The wagon serves as a superstructure and stands with its wheel sets on the abutments . A used, four-axle bogie flat wagon with stanchions of type Rgs-w 672 of the Deutsche Bahn was used , which was prepared for use as a bridge.

The designer, Ulrich Diehl, would like to pursue this design concept and build more bridges of this type.

The specialty of this type of bridge is that the wagons are completely, i.e. H. with all their technical facilities ( buffers , drawbars, braking systems, etc.) are retained.
